On January 20,2022 the Maryland Building Industry Association held their annual installation of officers. Hillary Colt of Konterra was installed as the 2022 president of the association. The MBIA CEO, Lori Graf, said, "Hillary is committed to this industry and she is focused on leading the association with passion and vision. Her years of experience in the industry and her knowledge of the building climate in Maryland will serve us well.” Special guest, Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford installed the officers. In his comments, he highlighted the significance of the MBIA Residential Carpenter Apprentice Program which provides an opportunity for apprentices to learn in-demand construction skills and earn a good, living wage. MBIA has been working with his office and staff to enhance and promote the program. For more information, visit www.marylandapprentice.org As a highlight of the ceremony is the the Home Builders Care Foundation, the 501 (c) (3) non-profit charity of the Maryland Building Industry Association, announced the winners of their 2019 Community Service Awards. Our Community Service Awards are presented annually by the Home Builders Care Foundation to individuals, companies, and/or organizations for their outstanding contributions to the community through unselfish efforts and dedication in support of shelter-related projects. 2021 WINNERS This year’s Community Builder Award Winners and Tom Sawyer Award Winners are being recognized for their four-kitchen renovation project at the Cordell Place Apartments in downtown Bethesda. The residents at Cordell Place are all formerly chronically homeless individuals, many of whom had been living on the streets for years. Cordell Place once was a four-story office building. Today, Cordell houses 32 furnished studio apartments, each with a private half-bath. Four (4) large full-sized kitchens, one on each floor, are shared by 8 residents. The Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless manage the program. The total retail value of the four-kitchen renovation project led by Tri Pointe Homes was about $75,000.
