May 16, 2019 (Fulton, MD) - The Maryland Building Industry Association announced the 2019 Montgomery County Custom Builder Awards at a ceremony at Pinstripes in North Bethesda, on May 16th. The awards showcase the outstanding work of builders, architects, designers and construction professionals in the region. "The MBIA Montgomery County Custom Builder Awards is a showcase of excellence in construction, architecture and residential design," said Lori Graf, CEO of MBIA. Entries must be located within Montgomery County or the District of Columbia, be no more than three years old and represent either custom construction or speculative production houses or condos. "They exemplify the quality of custom homes in our area and display the superior craftsmanship of our builder members." The awards are divided into categories including: Traditional Homes which combine practicality and accessibility with a classic look and simplistic design and functionality. Contemporary Homes which share common design elements such as strong, geometric shapes, oversized windows allowing for extensive natural light, asymmetrical facades and open floor plans with minimal doors and walls. Transitional Homes which blend traditional and contemporary styles, incorporating lines that are less ornate than traditional designs, but not as severely basic as contemporary lines. They are then further divided into to two types of houses; custom and speculative. A custom home is designed and built to the client's unique requirements. A spec home is designed and built with a buyer in mind. A diverse team of judges viewed both interior and exterior of the homes in addition to reviewing detailed written information, photographs and plans. The total building cost of all the houses entered in this year's competition totaled more than $30,000,000.
