January 24, 2019 (Fulton, MD) - On January 24th, the Maryland Building Industry Association held their annual installation of officers. Tim Morris, Executive Vice President of Williamsburg Homes, was installed as the 2019 president of the association. At Williamsburg Homes, Tim manages day to day operations, sales and marketing and works side by side with the production manager and production team to solve construction and customer issues. He also evaluates and acquires land for the company. Tim’s service to MBIA over the past year includes his role on the Executive Committee as the Vice President of Advocacy for the Baltimore market and as a member of the Builder Mart committee. He is also a champion when it comes to recruiting new members, bringing in 12 in 2017, and taking home Top Recruiter honors. Tim has been a member of MBIA since 1991. "MBIA has done much more for me than I have done for the organization. I have made great friendships and have met so many leaders and legends in our industry," he said. During his tenure as president, Tim plans to focus on retaining current members and continuing to recruit new members. He also plans to strengthen the legislative committee in order to deal with bills that are detrimental to the industry. The MBIA CEO, Lori Graf, said, "Tim’s years of industry experience have been invaluable to the MBIA and to our membership. His commitment to the association will make him an excellent president." As a highlight of the evening, the Home Builders Care Foundation, the 501 (c) (3) non-profit charity of the the Maryland Building Industry Association, announced the winners of their 2018 Community Service Awards. The awards are presented annually to individuals or organizations affiliated with the local home building industry in recognition of significant contributions to the community through unselfish efforts and dedication in support of projects that help the poor and disadvantaged in our communities. HBCF Community Service Award Winner This award is presented in recognition of a builder member for outstanding community service and leadership that has promoted the spirit of charity and goodwill in the building industry. This year’s winner is Caruso Homes, who is being recognized for their work with the Bowie Supportive Housing Corporation. Formerly the St. Matthew’s Housing Corporation, the program provides transitional housing for families, many who are victims of domestic violence and a crisis has left them homeless. Program participants are selected in consultation with local shelters and agencies. Tom Sawyer Award The Tom Sawyer Award is presented in recognition of outstanding hands-on charitable efforts that make a difference in the lives of others in need. This year’s winner is MBIA’s Future Industry Leaders Council, who is being recognized for involvement with the Ulman House. The new facility was once a block of six vacant row homes in East Baltimore. It has been transformed into a nine-unit supportive housing facility for cancer patients near Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. The event was held at the BWI Marriott.
